Maggie met a man Tall dark and handsome he looked Good upon her arm She always knew how to pick ‘em Maggie met a man A whirlwind romance now they’re Setting up a home Nobody thought she’d settle down Oh maggie what d’ya say Come out tonight and Let us play Your man can see you any day The girls are waiting for you Oh Maggie why the frown You say you’ll have to let us down He doesn’t like you out in town The girls are waiting for you Maggie met a man Now when the girls go out She asks him if she can That’s really nothing like her Maggie met a man Now when the girls call up He keeps her from the phone She’s under the weather and needs to rest Oh Maggie where’s your spark It seems as if your flame's gone out Since you’ve had that man about The girls are waiting for you Who made you wear that dress It’s not to your usual taste It’s making you look awful chaste The girls are waiting for you Maggie met a man Too many times she felt the Cruel back of his hand There’s only so much a girl can take Maggie met a man And with her girls she cried And made a little plan Meet before dawn tomorrow Maggie met a man Just pack a bag and then We’ll meet you at the shore Take the essentials nothing more Maggie met a man Go very quietly and tiptoe out the door Don’t wake him from his slumber Come on again and sing Come on again and dance Come on again and play ‘cos you’re such a laugh a day Come on again and rise Come on again and shine Come on again and sway We’ll chase all your cares away Maggie let that man of hers Grow in her mind to ten feet tall And she herself felt two feet small The girls are waiting for you Maggie don’t you worry now We’ll cut him down from ten feet tall Until he is just two feet small The girls are waiting for you Maggie met a man Last seen heading in a hurry out of town Nobody really knew him Maggie met a man Now there’s policemen looking For him with their van Everyone let him fool them Oh Maggie what’s gone wrong we’ve waited here for oh so long By know you should have been and gone The girls are waiting for you Oh Maggie here’s the tide it’s getting very close to light Oh say you haven’t changed your mind The girls are waiting for you Oh Maggie hear them shout They’re saying that you’re flame's gone out They’re looking for your man about The girls are waiting for you Oh Maggie crying shame He’s played you such a wicked game He stole the spark right from your flame The girls will sing out for you Written by Sarah Rimmer 2021

He was a Victorian man Worked hard all his days His family to raise Children should only be Seen and not heard Longed for a boy but he Got two girls He was a Victorian man My girl though I’m old You’ll still do as you’re told Down to the cellar to fetch the coal Smoothing the rug to make Sure he won’t fall He was a Victorian man You keep the home now your Sister has flown Out through the window you sneaked so bold Changing your dress in the shadows so cold For the music hall And you danced With Victor Sylvester time was a Jester a mime artist that froze And the lights shone bright To hide all of your woes Here is your glory your secret story But he’ll never know And for just one dance Liive the life that you chose He was a Victorian man Too proud to tell That his girl did him well Gather the brushes to clean his grave Think of the stories you now can say As you tell him all How you danced With Victor Sylvester Time was a Jester A mime artist that froze And the lights shone bright Dimmed all of your woes Here is your glory your secret story But he’ll never know That for just one dance you lived the life that you chose Written by Sarah Jane Rimmer 2021

Formed on a Sunday by a circle of friends The parrot club meets every other weekend Bringing all their dilemmas to fix up and mend They know that good friends will listen out once And hear you again and again till you’re done And the girls of the parrot have eyes and ears second to none Chorus: Come, come bring your wrongs Come bring your rights Bring everything in between All that is hidden All that is seen Come, come bring your scars Come bring your fights Bring your tears and bring your delights All that you live and all that you dream Maggie bursts in with a wave of her hand Flashing a ring freshly placed by her man And the girls of the parrot exchange a quick glance of concern Lips can hold smiles while eyes hide a frown And sometimes your ups are really your downs It’s an art to discern but the parrot club always knows how (Chorus) Adeline‘s father’s still gambling away She just bailed him out with half her week’s pay Peggy’s old man rests in six feet of earth Still she dances the night For all that she’s worth (chorus) Formed on a Sunday by a circle of friends The parrot club girls will be here till the end As long as life brings dilemmas To fix up and mend Written by Sarah Jane Rimmer 2021

about

The Parrot Club takes its name from my Grandmother’s friendship group in the 1940s. They would meet once a month and the husbands nicknamed them the Parrot Club due to all the chatter! Arranged for voice and piano, the songs tell the stories of the lives of three women, exploring themes of family relationships, domestic abuse, and finding moments to live your passion and dreams. The title track weaves all 3 stories together in a celebration of the power of lasting female friendships.
